The Artists:

PRITA CHHABRA - http://www.myspace.com/pritarocks
Born in Montreal and raised in Orlando, singer-songwriter Prita Chhabra has achieved a series of career milestones before even releasing her first album. From touring Canada and performing for thousands as part of RBC desifest (Canada’s national South Asian music festival), to being one of the few Canadian singers to have performed at Parliament Hill in Ottawa for key Canadian ministers and dignitaries, Prita is quickly gaining buzz as Canada’s next music sensation.

Highlights from some of Prita’s numerous TV, radio and print media coverage include performing on CTV’s national “Telethon of the Stars” ; being playlisted and charting #4 on the “Top 6 @ 6” fan requested countdown by Canada’s top South Asian radio station RJ1200 ; and receiving a half page pictorial in the Toronto Sun newspaper following a performance for over 5,000 people at Yonge & Dundas Square.

Prita’s debut EP, “Spread The Word”, consists of her seven original songs with Montreal’s acclaimed Othentic Productions. Prita is currently recording with one of Canada’s top music exports, fusion band JoSH, and recently finished her first Bollywood themed music collaboration with famed Canadian bhangra producer Vikas Kohli of FatLabs.

Also a passionate aids activist, Prita spent a month in a village in Malawi, Africa on an HIV/AIDS research trip and had the chance to sing at churches, for villagers and at politicians’ homes. Prita will be donating a portion of proceeds from her debut EP to the village, and is recording a Malawi song she learned to raise awareness. Prita also feels privileged to count several Canadian government luminaries as her fans, ranging from MP Justin Trudeau to Minister of Education Kathleen Wynne.

GURPREET CHANA [THE TABLA GUY] – http://www.thetablaguy.com
It all started from banging his hands on pots and pans or anything else he could get his hands on to hear and feel the beat. His grandfather Kesar Singh Chana saw this enthusiasm and gave him his first Tabla set and since that moment 29 years ago, there has been no looking back.  Gurpreet has been taught in the Punjab Gharana (style) from his Ustad Ji Professor Parshotam Singh.

His passion for percussion has taken him to perform at many music concerts and festivals around the globe.  From constantly creating and collaborating amongst his peers, Gurpreet’s music has been repeatedly requested and more importantly remembered for its distinctive sound and moving beats.  This has led him to perform and record with artists such as Nelly Furtado, Wyclef Jean, legendary UK DJ/ Producer Bally Sagoo, Juno Award winning Kiran Ahluwalia, The Bombay Dub Orchestra, Jorane, DJ Rekha, and open for Pete Rock and Lady Sovereign.

IMAAN FAITH – http://www.imaanfaithmusic.com
Like a cool desert breeze that refreshes and tantalizes, Imaan Faith is sweeping through the Hip-Hop landscape, energizing the masses and giving us new perspectives on rap – Middle Eastern style.  Born in Tehran and schooled on the tough streets of three continents, Imaan, who now calls Toronto home, brings an intriguing message of peace, positivity and more importantly, the truth.  His debut album “Let The Truth Be Known” (G.U.T.S./DEP/Universal) was released in March 2008, hitting the Soundscan Charts at an impressive #6 in its first week. The music video for Imaan’s first single, “Haven’t Seen U Smile” charted over 300,000 views on YouTube, and his second single and music video “Wanna Be Loved” features Konvict recording artist Colby O’Donis, best known for his appearances on Lady Gaga’s “Just Dance” and Akon’s “Beautiful” hit singles.

VERSION XCURSION – http://www.versionxcursion.com
VERSION XCURSION a.k.a. SASSA’LE and ARAM SCARAM continue to break boundaries and concepts in pushing the music they love - ’DUB’.  Their former radio program on CKLN 88.1 FM established itself for 11 years in the community and internationally as a source for dub music both new and old, and for pushing new and exciting Canadian sounds. As producers they have 4 releases to date.  Currently they are working on their fifth release "VX Past & Present", a collection of previous releases, unreleased remixes and new material scheduled for release soon. As promoters and dj’s they are involved in two monthlies. The four year strong Dub & Beyond, has seen the likes of J Star (London, UK), Rob Smith (Britol, UK), J.Boogie (San Francisco, USA) and Big Toes Hi-Fi (Edinburgh, Scotland).  VX also team up with Natewize, Prince Blanco, Rednote and the Dubmatix Soundsystem for their monthly Dub Collective parties.  Look and listen out for VX as they take their sound to radio and dance floors worldwide.
